Earicles Microtia Atresia Conference 2016 ~ Nashville Tennessee ~ A Grand Ole Time

Posted by on Aug 17, 2016 in Dr. Lewin's Blog | No Comments

Our Earicles Microtia Atresia Conference in Nashville, Tennessee “TNMAC” was definitely a grand ole time at the incredible Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center! The event kicked off with an ice cream social Meet & Greet on Friday evening with families, surgeons and sponsors. On Saturday families listened to several educational presentations followed by an interactive Patient/Parent Question & Answer forum with 14 families that have previously had microtia (and atresia) ear reconstruction surgery. Conference families were then able to meet individually with surgeons for brief consultations.

Post conference survey questions:
1)  Would you recommend other Microtia/Atresia families to attend an Earicles Microtia Atresia Conference in the future? 97% YES

2) What was your favorite part of the conference?

“The overall COMMUNITY we felt there…everyone was so knowledgeable and kind.”

“Getting to see surgical results in person as well as getting meet other Microtia families.”

“Hard to narrow it down because every part of the conference was planned and executed so great. We loved meeting families even as we explored the hotel, the sessions were very informative and encouraging.”

“Having the opportunity to meet the surgeons all in one place and meeting other families. This was very meaningful to our family.”

“Thank you for an informative and wonderful conference. We got to meet and hear the stories of other great families that also have microtia as part of their path and hear from 3 of the best surgeons in the world at what they do.”

“I loved the doctor presentations and the consultations with the doctors.”

“My husband and I loved how after the Drs spoke Angela and Sarah spoke about their experiences. This brought it home for us. Made us be able to connect with them and really see how amazing and life changing getting new ears are. Both him and I were crying through their whole session. We truly appreciate the great work Dr. Lewin has done.”

“The information the speakers presented was helpful to us in knowing truth versus rumor about the surgeries. It was also good to speak with families who had the surgery to hear their experiences.”

“All of the information from the doctors and parents was very helpful! We learned so much!!”

Post conference survey comments:

“Everything was amazing! Thank you for all the hard work that was put into this to make it a wonderful experience!!!”

“Getting to touch a SuPor implant was cool. Like, really cool!”

“Thank you Dr. Lewin, Dr. Kesser, Dr. Bonilla and parents/kids of the patient panel! You guys rock! There was a lot of good information this weekend, and we where super impressed with Dr. Kesser’s explanation of what atresia surgery looks like but also the differences between conductive vs sensorineural hearing loss! A lot of doctors we have met do not explain this well. The best by far!”

“The surgeons clearly have a lot of respect for each other, despite their different practices and opinions.”

“It was nice to be able to meet with hearing device companies, try on different processors, and ask them about new technology.”

A huge THANK YOU to our speakers Dr. Sheryl Lewin (Porous Implant Ear Reconstruction), Dr. Arturo Bonilla (Rib Graft Ear Reconstruction), Dr. Bradley Kesser (Atresia Repair), Angela and Sarah Sabal (Parent Advocacy), sponsors (Oticon Medical, Cochlear Americas, Poriferous, EarWell, K and B Surgical Center, Earicles), and Microtia families (including the Patient Panel families) for making TNMAC such a great success!
