Dr. Reid is a craniofacial fellowship-trained and board-certified plastic surgeon. He has particular expertise in surgery of the skull and face, including the orbit, jaw and palate. Dr. Reid has spent over 10 years focusing his practice to the treatment of children and adults with jaw deformities and uses cutting-edge technologies in orthognathic surgery, craniofacial distraction, and TMJ reconstruction to solve the most difficult cases. Dr. Reid’s research interests include the regeneration of bone for the repair of complex craniofacial defects, the biology of skull and facial sutures, and genetic expression in craniofacial development. Stephen Westhead, An Adult Patient’s Perspective
Steve was born with microtia and had ear reconstruction as a child. At the age of 53, he pursued a lifelong dream – to have his ear reconstructed again. Steve has a unique perspective about growing up with microtia and hearing loss, and the affects of surgery as an adult.
Sarah & Angela Sabal, Parent Advocacy (Ages 5-18)
Sarah was born with Bilateral Microtia and Atresia and lived in an orphanage in China until the age of 7 when she was adopted by the Sabal family from Virginia. Sarah now has two reconstructed ears and wears two bone conduction auditory processors. She is a talented artist, scholar, and athlete. Her mom, Angela, is the founder and admin of several Facebook support groups (BAHA World Hearing, BAHA “Kids Club” World Hearing, Bilateral Conductive Hearing Loss, BAHA Attract/ Magnetic Coupling World Hearing Support Group, BAHA/BAHS Baby Talk Board).
Amy Ayer, Parent Advocacy (Ages 0-5)
Amy’s son, James, was born with Microtia & Atresia and Hemifacial Microsomia. He has been through the ear reconstruction process along with a macrostomia/lateral cleft surgery. As an Nurse Practitioner, Amy can appreciate both the medical and parenting aspect of a young child with special needs. This Tennessee sweetheart is the mother of 3 boys and has sat on many Earicles patient panels. Amy is excited to share her insight with conference attendees!
